Student Deals

student dealsIf you have a student ID, you can get almost anything with a discount! Your student ID card has much more power than you might think. Every student can get deals on airfare, luggage, hotels, food, software, electronics, movies, and even cars! The surprising thing is – very few students use their benefits. But those who do, end up saving lots of money and you could be one of them!

Student Airfare Deals
Every student can get a discounted airfare if he can prove that he is a student. Usually just a student ID will do it. It is amazing how much students can save on airfare! You might wonder where can you get discounted airfare? Well…pretty much everywhere. Each airline and each booking website has some kind of student deal going on all the time. The best place to look at though is airfare search and booking websites that are specifically designed for student travelers. Among them are STA Travel and Student Universe just to name a few. Their customers are mostly students and student airfare deals is their specialty. It doesn’t mean that they have the cheapest deals out there though! You can always visit an airline website where you will find a better deal most of the time, just have to look for it! Getting such deals might help average student to save on study abroad programs, so be sure to check out all of your options.

Here are just some examples of discounts you can get:

Hotel Deals
If you have a student ID, or ISIC or something of that sort, at some hotels you can get discounted rates that no one else but students can enjoy. Always ask for such deals to save more!

Car Deals
A lot of car dealerships across the country have some kind of student deals going on usually during May and June when students graduate and find jobs. Take advantage of it if you can!

Entertainment Student Deals

At a movie theater: Every time you go to a movie be sure to ask about student deals and specials they might have! If the movie costs $10, you might be able to get in for $7.50-$8 if you show your picture ID. Usually you will not see any signs about it because the majority of students don’t know about discounts and pay regular rate.

At a theme park: Theme parks is another place where students can get discounts. For example, if regular admission rate is $25 per person, students can get in for $20. Again, you will not see any signs out because ticket boxes want to collect as much as possible.

Bike rentals: A lot of students rent bikes for a semester or the whole year to save on buses and gas. A lot of the bike rental places will offer student discounts if you show your picture ID.

Public Transportation: As you know, you can always get a student bus pass or light rail pass for much less than it is offered. Bus passes may range anywhere between $100 and $200 per year and most of the students can get it for as low as $70. This is extra cash in your pocket that you can use for your books or rent.

Elsewhere: Be smart and negotiate. Businesses are eager to make a sale! If you ask about a student deals and then find out that there are none – don’t get upset! Negotiate and ask for a discount, say that you are a student, and if the salesman is a descent listener, they will offer a discount to make a sale. It’s that easy.

Where to get student deals information?

Student Information Center: Your best bet will be visiting your students’ information center. Each university has information desk where they assist students with all kinds of inquiries. They also have all kinds of information regarding student deals. They work with a lot of vendors who distribute coupons and deals through these offices. When you talk to the receptionist at the desk they will tell you all about it.

Student IDs and Discount Cards: Another smart move will be to get an international student identification card like ISIC. There are lots of different cards you can choose from but they all work the same. Each one of such discount cards has a list of vendors/companies that they partner with who offer discounts to holders of such student identity cards. The list ranges anywhere from airfare to theme parks to retail stores. You can usually get around 10% to 15% off at such places.
